Meditation Music For the Young Folks
When you look over a selection of meditation music or new age music, you probably don't have kids in mind. Rather the image of the stereotypical new age practitioner- doing yoga, having a daily meditation practice, attending spiritually conscious events and so on- is probably what comes to mind. Many people look dismissively at such, simply because their exposure has been negative. Any time you encounter a "you're doing it wrong and I'm doing it right" mentality, the response is to shut down. However, practices such as yoga and meditation are not new age practices, they are age-old, dating back centuries. Today, more and more adults are learning about these practices and their benefits, and many of them are passing that information down to their children. Introducing children to calming practices in this day and age is practically essential for their well-being. Today's world is full of media that pushes the human mind to take in more and more visual, auditory and mental stimuli. As a result, our tolerance has shot up and it now takes a great deal to actually fully capture people's attention, which just leads to more and more flashy tactics being used. Children who are exposed to this tend to experience more anxiety and have a shorter attention span that would otherwise be normal. Their sense of self-worth becomes tied up in media ideals, which is certainly not desirable. The solution to this problem that many people are discovering is the addition of yoga and meditation into kid's lives. Often, it helps to introduce them in a media format they are used to, such as a yoga video or with a yoga music CD. Once they've actually experienced yoga, they tend to want to continue. Most children love learning new things and feel a great sense of pride whenever they accomplish something new. Often, they will show and tell everyone they come in contact with about what they've just learned how to do. Using meditation music and new age music to help them meditate or relax and achieve a sense of calm is something that they will enjoy having as part of their quiet time routine, and something that the whole family can do together. Some of the benefits of yoga include reduced anxiety, better focus and concentration and a longer attention span. Learning the importance of physical health is important for everyone, and yoga, which benefits both strength and flexibility, is a great way to start on that journey. Hopefully, it will be a life-long learning experience. Yoga also helps to build up self esteem and improve self-image. Learning to relax and de-stress has wide-reaching effects in a person's life as well, and will contribute to well-being and actually reduce the risk of certain kinds of disease. Just imagine how different a child's life could be, if they learned all of this at an early age. Doing right by kids doesn't mean giving them all the material things they want, it means providing them with the skills to have a successful life, and yoga certainly should be one of those skills.
